Mission Statement

To help two people in the midst of a dispute both find their voice and stop to listen in order to reach across the void of disagreement and meet on common ground.

Health Mediation is a non-lawyer mediation service focused on the personal issues involved in health care, not a lawyer mediation service focused on legal theories. At Health Mediation we believe every dispute is personal. Regardless of whether it is doctor to patient, neighbor to neighbor, or provider to insurance company, all disputes are person-to-person issues at their root. We believe that with that focus we can help both sides of the disagreement to realize a mutually acceptable solution.

Disputes that arise in the medical arena can be sensitive and emotional situations because they arise from the health and well being of individuals and their family members.  Add to that the significant financial matters that the current health care system can generate and you have a very stressful situation. We strive to understand the personal nature of both sides of a dispute in order to bring people together. Managing today’s health care environment takes skill and experience to make it work effectively.  Managing the disputes that can arise in healthcare takes the same skill and experience.

I have been involved with various aspects of the Health Care industry for over 30 years.

As a Risk Manager my responsibilities included participating in Mandatory Settlement Conferences, meditations, voluntary settlement conferences, arbitration, small claims court and the management and settlement of all types of claims and litigation.

Whether as Risk Manager for Cigna HealthCare of California and managing numerous disputes arising from the provision of health care to members or dealing with paramedic issues involving Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, my work has always involved solving problems related to the provision of medical care.

The experience of participating in hundreds of alternative dispute resolution conferences has given me a deep understanding of the process and how to get two parties in a dispute to come together.
